Scott Colley's album, This Place, is a masterful work that showcases the bassist's incredible talent and musical sensibilities. From start to finish, Colley's compositions are rich, complex, and deeply moving, drawing on a range of influences from jazz to classical to folk.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Architect," which features Colley's virtuosic bass playing alongside the haunting vocals of Gretchen Parlato. The song builds slowly, with Colley's bass providing a steady foundation for Parlato's soaring melodies, before exploding into a frenetic, improvisational climax.

Another highlight is "Inside Out," a beautiful ballad that showcases Colley's lyrical playing and his ability to create rich, evocative harmonies. The song features some stunning solos by saxophonist Chris Potter and pianist Bill Frisell, who both bring their own unique voice to the piece.

Throughout the album, Colley's bass playing is simply stunning.
