When our modern and forward thinking women; burned your bras, tossed your stilettos, dropped your big ‘bouffant & beehive’ hair and all that hairspray!
The Freedom Generation, when the Birth-Control Pill finally made it POSSIBLE to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
Those years that marked the end of The Baby-Boom!
No more endless primping with impossible hair and painful styles. No more “expectations” of marriage after High School, to avoid being “Old-Maids” at 23! We could choose to avoid living ‘as slaves’ like our mothers, in trapped lives, with endless strings of pregnancies, babies, cooking, cleaning, and primping, and being subservient to unappreciative chauvinistic husbands!
…..when women were all prisoners in a man’s world.
Women’s Lib was hard fought for.
I was a young Teenager who was lucky enough to watch and LIVE it! To experience it with my two older and two younger sisters.
We could wear JEANS! halter-tops!and long straight hair.
No fuss, no muss.
I was lucky. I benefited from the work of all my ‘older sisters’ and their struggle.
This SONG truly is our Anthem!
Every WORD of that song had a deep, profound and powerful meaning in our lives

First time I've heard of this song. It's really empowering and I'm going to add it to my list of 'mantras'. I really like the fact that Helen Reddy does not look like a Barbie Doll or a sex symbol. Compare and contrast with Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Britney Spears.
